Making a Difference: Ben Bumbry, manager of the Jackson-Lincoln Pool in Quincy, spoke at a press conference Thursday for the annual Sammy Fund event on Oct. 18-19. The pool is one of several organizations to receive grants from the Sammy Fund, which was started in 2000 by Chuck and June Otte in memory of their daughter, Samantha. “We’re averaging 140 kids and their parents on Family Nights on Thursdays, and we’ve got kids who come here at 1 o’clock and stay here all day,” he said. “When you look at how many times these kids come here, you know that people like (the Ottes) make a difference.”
